Knit Me Chic Granny

Recently, Vanda Vintage helped me to discover the name of a particular pattern, called Granny Square. Say what? The Granny Square seems pretty simple. Crochet around and around until you have what looks like a square. (I am recalling my grandmother using the individual squares as pot holders or as coasters way back when.) Seems practical. But wait! You can also connect several Granny Squares to create those all to familiar thrift store blankets, or shawls, capes, sweaters or… the possibilities are as endless as the imagination.

At this point, I’m fascinated by this retro crochet trend and decided to Google it. Guess what? Crochet Granny Squares have turned chic, having hit the runway for Fall / Winter collections. I am kind of bummed that I missed this. (But it’s not too late!)

Retro references remained strong, as House of Holland has recreated the granny square into amazing cocktail entire that feels fresh and sophisticated. Yet, there remains that familiar cozy center that the Granny Square offers.

Granny Squares kitsch-chic? Definitely. And we’re on it!
Keep your eye out for these amazing pieces. Or find it vintage.

On the Radar: Rack ‘Em Hot Pink

c/o chictopia

We’ve got an obsession, and it’s, clearly, HOT PINK!
Part of our job at Lucky Rabbit is to surf the internet to find inspiration for the shop and key-in on what’s trending. {sounds fun, right?!} Happily, we are not alone in this neon obsession. We’re spotting looks all over the inter-webs and on the streets of SF. Pink dresses, shoes, LIPS, the list goes on! Here are some of our current muses!

Calling All L.A. Dwellers

There’s a special event coming your way! That’s right! You have read correctly. We’re encouraging you to get off the inter-webs, breathe in the sunshine, and stroll through a local Los Angeles vintage pop-up, hosted by Fair Season. Find it at the courtyard at Space 15 Twenty. Have you heard of it yet? It’s like a the ultimate yard sale for vintage & fashion lovas, alike.

Who’s selling? Only the best! I happen to have an inside scope that Trashy Vintage and Hella Vintage are taking it off-line for a meet and greet, as you get to browse their stash.

Make this Sunday (Aug. 14) awesome by sipping unsweetened iced tea, strolling vintage collections, and dancing while a dj rocks the jams! Top it off with Umami Burger. Bammm! That’s a California Sunday!

Chic Transition: Tips to Shopping the Transition

credit: don't say no fashion

The Summer transition into Fall always seems to catch us by surprise. We tend to ignore it because, well, it feels so warm this week! It has proved a never-ending trap. The unpredictable swing could mean fog, a cool breeze, or re-visiting summer heat. Don’t get caught off guard! Here are few key tips on what to consider when shopping for Summer to Fall clothing.

1. Look for pieces you can layer
Days often start cool, only to warm up by the end of the afternoon. Do look for blouses, tops, that you could throw a jacket or blazer over when it’s cool, but that are cool enough for when the day warms up. Pair with trousers on cooler days and skirts & shorts on warmer ones.

2) Keep it light while staying covered
Do
make sure that these pieces are lighter to offer a breeze when you need it. Also, look for dresses with slightly thicker material to beat the chill. Tip: Vintage dresses were often made with thicker fabric

3) Slip dresses are still your friend
Indian Summer often hits us when we least expect it. So don’t pack up all your hot-weather wear just yet. Do cool off with light-fabric dresses like slip dresses when Indian Summer strikes. Once the season has made its change, these dresses make perfect nightgowns to lounge around in.

4) Fair-weathered rompers
The romping trend doesn’t have to end with summer. Do opt for its closely related cousin, the jumpsuit. They come in many fabrics and styles from casual, to our modern-style chic jumpsuit.

5) Transition effortlessly with current trends
Leopard print is still making its way to Spring 2012. Do note current and upcoming trends when shopping to ensure that your pieces will live past the transition.

New Obesh: DIY Dip Dye Denim Vests

Summer is FINALLY here in California! The green hills from Spring are bleaching out and that particularly smell of Summer-time allergy is in the air. Needless to say, I was inspired to turn a pretty great Gap denim vest to something a bit more amazing!

I’ve paired the up-cycled vest with a fab. rainbow ombre Southwestern slouch top, which is equally amazing. Both can be found at the Lucky Rabbit shop right now!

On the Radar

I, regularly, keep items on my radar. They are usually related to my mood and the seasons. This month it’s June. Summer is just beginning! My heart is beckoning for a road trip without a plan, the fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type. Since the Lucky Rabbit JUST moved into the studio last week, I have promised NO shopping. Then I saw these…

1) Boho Hippie Dress

{image credit}

I spotted this floor length maxi dress with flutter angel sleeves on the Rock Paper Vintage Facebook Fan Page. When I saw it, my heart dropped (remembering, no Online shopping). It was a preview from last week’s shoot. It should be coming to their ebay store soon! I’m doing nothing else but dying over this dress. One of a kind vintage means 1 lucky ebay winner! I’m jealous already.

2. Jeffrey Campbell Woods

What else? Nothing else. Pink strappy, wooden platform heels. Summer perfection.

3. Golden Feather Headdress

{image credit}
GASSSSSSSSSP!  Aurelie Bidermann’s necklace (that’s styled in this picture as a headdress) is by far the best I’ve seen. 18-karat gold goose feather. Need I say more?? I think not. If you want the original, find it on Net-A-Porter for only $2,205! Me, I’ll be pinching my pennies to figure out how to DIY this.

What’s on your radar?
